Hundreds to Rally to Stop School Closures

Sacramento Community Stands United Against Closures Prior to Vote on February 21

SACRAMENTO, CA –  The Putting Students First (PSF) Coalition will host a rally and press conference onWednesday, February 20 to stand united against the proposed closure of 11 elementary schools. Led by Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP), the PSF Coalition is a diverse community of stakeholders including parents, teachers, advocates and students.

The PSF Coalition will urge the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) Board of Education to reject the Superintendent’s proposal to close eleven schools. By failing to provide comprehensive plans to ensure student safety and suppressing community input with a very short timeframe; the Superintendent’s proposal places the special interests of the district before the needs of Sacramento’s children. The press conference and rally will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento. Following the press conference and rally, the PSF Coalition will lead a march to the Serna Center where the Board will meet on Thursday, February 21 to make their final decision.
