Diane Ravitch's brilliant, must-read blog, Bobby Jindal vs. Public Education, caused me to pull out an e-mail I got from a teacher buddy in Louisiana a few weeks back. My friend is a National Board Certified Teacher, with a long and distinguished career in education. She wasn't invited to Bobby Jindal's education summit--but a Teach for America corps member she's mentoring was, and urged her to attend, saying that she'd learn about the exciting innovations planned for public education in Louisiana.
So my friend took a day away from the classroom and drove up to the Capitol with her mentee. She took notes all day, and sent the following dismayed message:

How Parent Revolution’s Adelanto Saga Shows Parent Trigger is Wrong for Florida

Washington Post reporter Lyndsey Layton and a photographer made the trip to Adelanto, California for a first hand look at the hotly contested parent trigger petition battle going on there. Layton’s reporting reveals details of the realities that exist at Desert Trails Elementary and the astonishing lengths that charter school advocacy group Parent Revolution go to achieve their objectives.
…..(parents) sought help from Parent Revolution. The group, founded by a charter school entrepreneur, sent professional organizers to Adelanto to give the parents a crash course in the law, signature gathering, educational policy and even media handling.
Parent Revolution rented a house near the elementary school and converted it into a nerve center

Video Shows Law Student Obama Introducing Professor Derrick Bell at 1990 Campus Rally

Video has surfaced from a speech President Obama gave at a campus rally in 1990, the first of a series of videos that conservative activist Andrew Breitbart claimed would reveal the president’s true radicalism to the American people.
Only a little over a minute of the speech has appeared so far, but Breitbart’s website promises “additional footage that has been hidden by Obama’s allies in the mainstream media and academia” is yet to come.
In today’s video, Obama — then a 29-year-old Harvard law student — is seen introducing Harvard professor Derrick Bell, who had taken an unpaid leave from the law school to protest the absence of women of color from its tenured faculty ranks. Bell, who had been a prominent civil rights lawyer in the 1960s, was the school’s first
