Search support and opposition

Use this form to search support and opposition filings collected by California Watch and The Sacramento Bee from the latest bill analysis for every bill filed in the California Legislature in 2011.

Only organizations that formally filed their support or opposition to a bill are listed in the database. Many groups lobby bills without formally registering a position.

Source documents for this database come from nonpartisan staff analysts, who write support and opposition information into the regular bill summaries and analyses they provide to lawmakers.

Analysts typically produce a new analysis for each step a bill takes through the legislative process. Sometimes, support and opposition may be listed in an early version of the analysis but will not be copied into subsequent versions. Our database only tracks positions listed in the most recent analysis file, even if support or opposition was not copied over from an earlier version.

The next EFL/ESL/ELL Blog Carnival will be posted on January 1st, so there are only a few days left to contribute a post! David Deubelbeiss from EFL Classroom 2.0 will be the host. This is how David describes the theme:

Some critics of text messaging feel it is ineffective communication because it is void of emotion, lacking the message enhancements that tone of voice and nonverbal expression provide. Maybe those critics never received a love note. Yes, text messages are short, quick, and full of abbreviations. However, the back and forth nature of texting more closely resembles conversation than a note or letter. As we have seen, it is a combination of two forms of communication which has proven very appealing to teens and tweens. In addition to needing to find the right word to convey emotions A whole new means of communicating feelings and emotions has developed for use with texting called emoticons. Emoticons are symbols used to represent feelings. The use of emoticons in text messages makes them very effective in expressing the feelings that go with the words. The Sacramento City Unified School District is fighting a civil lawsuit filed by its teachers union over teacher seniority rights in rehiring after layoffs.

The Sacramento City Teachers Association's lawsuit comes months after the union fought the district's decision to utilize a seldom used provision in Education Code in order to not layoff teachers at six persistently low-performing schools.

The result of the civil lawsuit in Sacramento Superior Court could have implications on a growing movement by some of the largest California districts. More and more districts are deviating from purely seniority-based layoffs and in the ensuing rehiring process.

"We just want to see everyone treated equally instead of some getting special treatment," said SCTA President Scott Smith. "Basically, we are saying the way in which they skipped

A letter from a friend tells me the war is over, that Obama has pulled all combat troops out of Iraq. She suggests that we who protested Bush's invasion from the beginning should hold a press conference and claim credit even though the anti-war movement in the U.S. has long been dormant, anesthetized since Obama's election in 2008.

Liberal peace activist, Tom Hayden writes in the L.A. Timesthat, "the war is as over as a war can be, and the peace movement should celebrate." The president himself has declared the war effort, "a success" and the New York Times goes so far as to tells us that "War Really Is Going Out of Style."
