The beginning of my year is Labor Day. Or, not saving the best for last, July 4. How strange it is to look at a year in retrospect, and look at another going forward, when we are in fact a little short of halfway through the school year and a third of the way through the whole cycle.
It is traditional. But I will pass. Last year was for a full decade. That’s different. This year the recap can come in June. Perspective in September.
But the resolutions? Ok, I’ll review those from 2010, and renew some going forward.
And that's a concern for educators statewide, who say California can do better for its kids despite the ongoing economic crisis - but if it doesn't, everyone will pay later with higher crime and an increased number of dropouts.

No matter now. This morning the coffee is good and hot and the oatmeal has some maple syrup we brought

On the tail-end of our Central Coast vacation, I awoke last night to the sounds of merrymakers welcoming the new year–hooting, honking–which was quickly covered by the slow motion heartbeat of the Pacific Ocean. I fell back to sleep, waking up a few minutes ago with a concern that will never change. How will my boy fare as he grows up? Will he have psychological problems? What will be his needs? All of my worries are fodder for Google
