Byrne Creek Community Secondary School is committed to its culture of teacher collaboration. A weekly dedicated time slot is used by teams of staff to discuss student achievement and develop support plans. One student support plan was The Village of Attachment. Over six months, a group of staff met to learn the foundations and employ the strategies of this powerful paradigm.
Drawing on neuroscience, social science and developmental approaches, district counselor Bev Ogilvie and retired principal Steve Cairns, founders of the program, embrace the African proverb that it takes a whole village to raise a child. The village is a web of adults who are committed to the cause of connectedness in our homes, schools, and communities. Their belief is that it is vitally important that adults be in the lead with children, that we are a child's beacon, his north star, his lighthouse, his compass. When adults are in the alpha position, children are able to rest in this

“The education blogosphere, and parts of the education media, have been abuzz the past couple of days over the discovery that Michelle Rhee’s often-claimed astronomical student test gains when she was a teacher were not true. This, of course, does not mean that Rhee was not a good teacher — for all I know, she was an excellent one (though I have to admit her admission that she taped the mouths shut of her students one day does give one pause).

I will focus on two of the candidates, Enoch and Husk. They are, in a sense, polar opposites. Banda seems “nice enough” but we need more than that in Seattle, particularly now after having to live through Broad and Goodloe-Johnson forcing their will on Seattle Public Schools with the stealth help of Gates funded organizations.
Because I want to end this post on a positive note, I’ll start with who we don’t want as superintendent. That would be Dr. Sandra Husk.
Dr. Husk didn’t get off on the right foot when the district that had just hired her discovered that she had lied during the interview process. According to The Statesman Journal:
But what should be community joy is tempered by the realization that the next school superintendent already has misled the public. She said she wasn’t a candidate for school
