Meet the Three ALEC Supporting Corporate Giants Who Dare You to Boycott Them

As the ALEC boycott continues to grow some corporations are not getting the message. Executives from Pfizer, Reynolds American, and Procter & Gamble are daring you to boycott them. Beneath the good news that Kraft and Pepsi have joined Coca-Cola in deciding to stop supporting ALEC, there are some companies who just don’t get it. According to Reuters, Pfizer, Reynolds American, and Procter & Gamble have all came out in support of ALEC. Tobacco maker Reynolds American said, “ALEC provides a valuable forum for sharing of ideas and fostering better understanding of a broad range of both legislative and business issues.” --Read the rest here.

Families and small businesses pick up the tab for egregious tax loopholes exploited by corporations

Some politicians might believe that "corporations are people," as former Gov. Mitt Romney declared last year.
At tax time, however, corporations enjoy better treatment than ordinary folks. While millions of individual Americans file last-minute income tax returns this month, some major corporations won't pay a dime despite reaping record profits.
From 2008 to 2010, the 280 most profitable U.S. corporations sheltered half of their profits from taxes, thanks to tax subsidies totaling nearly $224 billion, according to a 2011 analysis by Citizens for Tax Justice. A dozen large companies, including Exxon-Mobil, Boeing, and General Electric, reaped

Phillip K. Howard tells us that "To fix America's bureaucracy, we need to destroy it." The part most in need of destruction is not yet fully grown: The new national standards and their spawn, the new national tests. Howard points out that NCLB (No Child Left Behind) and its emphasis on standardized test scores has made it very hard for teachers to be creative and deal with children as individuals. Teaching has been reduced to "teaching to the test."
It's going to get a lot worse. The US Department of Education is developing a massive new testing program, with far more testing than ever before, and they have made no secret about it.
More grade levels to be tested: The new plan will require, as was the case with NCLB, tests in reading and math in grades three through eight and once in high school, but there is serious discussion of extending the

Every time there is a call to boycott the anti-labor Chicago Tribune, I consider subscribing so that I can then unsubscribe to support the boycott.
The truth is that I haven’t really read the Trib for years, although I’ll link to their stories now and then.
Same for the Sun-Times.
I do know people who still subscribe to the Sun-Times so that they can do the Sudoku puzzle.
I’m a Sunday NY Times Magazine crossword guy myself.
There’s a boycott of companies that fund ALEC.
ALEC is the American Legislative Exchange Council.
This evil group brings together giant corporations and mostly Republican state legislators to craft most of the
