The Internet is an increasing source of excellent quality video content. This video is an example - from National Geographic and their daily update:

Diving in the Maya Sacred Pools
gives UP TO DATE information on current discoveries in science. In this video, divers discuss how they have found some ancient artifacts in Belize and also you can see the fascinating way that they go through the bottom of a pool into an area where water comes out of the spring. You'd have to see it to believe it at the beginning! (So cool.)

The point is that the Internet is our library and that between features like this and services like Discovery

Hello! I was a little reticent in last week’s posting about the lab. I think that reflected some of where I was at then. The first week is about establishing routines. Cheryl Moodie, one of six people who filed last month to run for the District VIII school board seat, has withdrawn from the race because she failed to meet the state mandate that candidates have lived in Texas for a full 12 months. Moodie, a consultant and former high-level hospitality executive, moved to a luxury highrise in Houston earlier this year from Louisiana. The Millennium Campus Network, cofounded by the Newton North and Brandeis graduate, will bring 1,000 college students from around the country to Columbia University for a two-day conference this weekend.

The Sellwood Middle School Foundation will hold a 5K race and walk Oct. 3 to raise money for art, band, Spanish and industrial arts staffing.

Chairwoman Lanell Nolf said the annual event, the Sellwood 5K: A Run/Walk for Education, provides much-needed funding and brings the community together. She hopes the new name -- it had been known as the Run for Ed -- attracts walkers and members of the wider neighborhood.

The Sellwood Middle School jazz and marimba bands will play before and after the 5K. The Trader Joe's store in Southeast will provide free water and snacks. Young children can take part in a free 1K run/walk.

The 5K route begins and ends at the school, 8300 S.E. 15th Ave., and loops on the Springwater Corridor Trail. Cost is $15 for students, $20 for adults and includes a T-shirt. Register online atwww.pps.k12.or.us/schools/sellwood, or mail or drop off the form at the school. Registration will be offered at the event, though T-shirts won't be guaranteed.
