  • Diane Ravitch lecture, 7:30-9 p.m.: Part of the Free Library of Philadelphia author series, author Diane Ravitch will discuss her latest book Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools. Location: Main Branch, 1901 Vine Street, Montgomery Auditorium.

  • Know Your Rights Strategy Session, 10 a.m. : Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia and Parents United for Public Education are hosting a second Know Your Rights workshop on how to file legal complaints with the state department of education. Read more about this effort hereLocation: United Way Building, 1709 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Center City.
  • Protest of Michelle Rhee Town Hall on Education, 5 p.m.: Sponsored by Alliance for Philadelphia Public Schools.  Location: Temple University Student Facility Center, 3340 N. Broad Street.
  • PCAPS Conversation on Future of Public Education, 6 p.m.: What’s the future hold? A panel discussion featuring Parents United’s Helen Gym and Rev. Mark Tyler, of P.O.W.E.R. and Mother Bethel A.M.E. Location: SEIU District 1201, 455 N. 5th Street.
  • SRC “Strategy & Policy” discussion, 6 p.m.: 440 N. Broad Street No registration necessary to testify. Location, 440 N. Broad Street.
Tuesday, Sept. 17th
  • PICA board meeting, 12:15 p.m.: Regular meeting of the PICA board to approve the City 5-year plan. Location: 1500 Walnut Street, Suite 1600.
  • Philadelphia Home and School Council meeting, 6 p.m.: First meeting of the year for the citywide Philadelphia Home and School Council. Parents United will be speaking about our work to document the negligence in the current school year. Location: 440 N. Broad Street, Rm. 1075

  • Rally for a Fair and Equitable Funding Formula, 11:30 a.m.: On the day the state legislature finally goes back to work, Education Voters PA, Parents United for Public Education and other organizations and groups from around the state will hold a press conference naming education funding the number one legislative priority for the year. Location: State Capitol Building, Harrisburg
