Massachusetts education officials release teacher evaluation data
Report cards are out and Massachusetts educators received high marks, overall.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released educator evaluation ratings on Tuesday. More than 79,000 educators in 366 districts across Massachusetts participated.
About 87 percent of professional status teachers in the classroom during the 2014-2015 school year earned a proficient rating and just over one in ten teachers received exemplary reviews.
2.4 percent of teachers were rated as in need of improvement and 0.4 percent were deemed unsatisfactory in the classroom.
Teachers lacking professional status- meaning they haven't held their position for more than three years -received lower ratings, overall. Close to 10 percent were rated as in need of improvement and 0.6 percent were considered unsatisfactory. Just over 85 percent earned proficient ratings and 4.1 percent were rated exemplary.
Educators are evaluated on several categories, from classroom observations to sample lesson plans and engagement with parents.
