Breaking: Senate Bill 1 passes the Senate.

On the first vote it failed by one.
They revoted.
It passed.
Senate President John Cullerton’s pension bill will now go to the Illinois House where it is also expected to pass.
Then it will be up to the courts.
The Cullerton bill has two parts.
One is all the bad stuff in the Cross/Nekritz/Biss horror story: Raise the retirement age. Increase employee contributions. Cut COLAs.
Cullerton fully expects the courts will find that part in violation of the pension protection clause of the Illinois

Park Ridge foot doctor and District 64 board member was not happy with the post I wrote slamming the board for playing cheap with district paraprofessionals and non-union secretaries, health assistants and custodians.
To his credit, unlike other board members, Borrelli ran for the board with the promise that he would fight against

imagesI recently pointed out that Chicago Tribune star columnist Eric Zorn had not bothered to look into the banning ofPersepolis, even though the story broke at Lane Tech where his own daughter is a student.
He admitted that he dismissed it as a “wild rumor”  when he wrote a piece about the controversy on his Tribune blog.
“Guess not,” conceded Zorn.
I complained that his attitude was what is wrong with the way Chicago major media covers education issues.
Zorn wrote back, ironically, not twenty minutes after I posted the piece at 4 in the afternoon. He defended himself
