District Superintendents Nationwide Ready for Charter Fight

 District officials from Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee are opposing the efforts by their states to expand charter school programs.




Supporters and opponents of charter schools are gearing up for a fight in Atlanta, Georgia, as a referendum that would amend the state constitution to allow charter schools draws closer to a vote. The amendment, which will go on the ballot in November, was passed by the legislature this month and would allow the state to approve charter schools over the objections of the local school boards.
