Next Friday on Hitting Left: Jose Rico joins us.
Next week’s guest on Hitting Left is Jose Rico.
Jose is a long-time community organizer, educator and activist in Chicago’s Little Village Community.
As a member of the Small Schools Workshop, he was active in the 2001 hunger strike that lead to the birth of Little Village/Lawndale High School. He become the founding principal of Multicultural Arts High School (MAS), one of the small schools within LVLHS. He then served as an adviser on Latino education affairs in the Obama White House.
In February, as Chairman of the CPS Latino Advisory Committee, Jose was part of the mass resignation of most of its members in protest of the under-funding of Latino students and after the school board turned a deaf ear on the committee’s recommendations.
