Garfield’s Black Student Union responds to rumored white supremacists march in Seattle

BLACK-POWER-ONYX-TRUTH

Fueled by statements of hatred and bigotry spewed by Donald Trump and others, some folks who think they’re better than anyone else, have decided to come out of the closet with their ignorance and stupidity.
In Seattle, some hate group, who no one is familiar with, posted they were planning a march and rally today in Ballard and Capitol Hill. So far, as of 7:00 PM this evening, there is no news that these events took place.
But, in response to the rumor, the Garfield High School Black Student Union issued a statement on their Facebook page. It reads as follows:
It has been brought to the attention of the Garfield High School Black Student Union that a “White Power March” organized by a Neo-Nazi skinhead group will be held today, December 6th, in Ballard, WA and the Capitol Hill area. This march serves as another reminder of the constant injustices done to black and brown people in America, and that we definitely do not live in a “post-racial society”. It represents a greater system that creates a culture of fear, trauma, and oppression. Let’s not forget “white power” exists in our governments, justice and education systems. Their power is rooted in the pain, suffering, and death of our ancestors, which they still continue to benefit from today.

As black youth, our goal is to fight against these systems that continue to terrorize our people and communities. We believe that through activism and education we can create our own power–a power that is strong enough to fight the systems that were built to suppress us. We stand to bring power to Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, John Crawford III, Tanisha Anderson and the countless others who’ve lost their lives to “white power”. We encourage you to join us in denouncing these childish and disgusting displays of “white power” and to celebrate the resilience and strength of black power.

L.A. school board holds unusual Sunday meeting to interview superintendent candidates

The Los Angeles Board of Education held an unusual Sunday meeting to interview candidates for the job of superintendent of the nation’s second-largest school system. Except for brief periods to open and close the meeting, the entire session was conducted out of public view, and no announcement was made at the conclusion.
“The board is approaching this with both the intensity and the focus that a decision that stands to affect so many children mandates,” said board president Steve Zimmer in a brief interview afterward.
The gathering was the first occasion for the school board to question one or more of those under serious review for the job of schools chief. About seven candidates initially are being considered from a pool of more than 100 brought forward by a search firm; their names have not been released.
Besides taking place on Sunday, the most unusual aspect of the meeting was that, after beginning in open session for one minute, board members traveled across the 110 Freeway to the 63rd floor of the U.S. Bank Tower to conduct interviews.
Zimmer declined to say why the closed session was moved to another location.
After meeting for eight hours in private, board members returned to district headquarters, reconvened in open session and adjourned until 8 a.m. Tuesday. They also have set aside time for interviews on Dec. 13.
The board is seeking a replacement for current Supt. Ramon C. Cortines, 83, who said he would like to retire at the end of the year. Cortines has headed the L.A. Unified School District three times — most recently when he agreed to replace John Deasy, who resigned under pressure in October 2014.
L.A. Unified is the nation’s largest school system run by an elected Board of Education, and it faces enormous challenges, including a potential budget deficit, shrinking enrollment and an outside effort to rapidly increase the number of charter schools, which could threaten the district’s financial solvency and its ability to provide services to L.A. school board holds its first interview for job of superintendent - LA Times:

Liars in the HOUSE

In the case of education policy, the liars should be doubted.

What do you know about the Every Student Succeeds Act (S.1177) set to replace No Child Left Behind? One thing you probably won’t be surprised to hear is that the lawmaking process was corrupted.
But this time it is more than a bit unsettling. Few people know how openly the liars in the House — OUR HOUSE —are not being questioned or doubted by either the People or the other representatives…..that means no real debate occurred on this bill and it is sailing into law….unless we stop it.
When we toss together liars, lemmings, and a lackadaisical public, we have a recipe for political corruption…..How corrupt? Disgustingly so if you think parents should have a say in their own children’s education!
To begin with, don’t be fooled into thinking either the House or Senate were slaving away over writing this bill. They have had 15 years to think over the mistakes of No Child Left Behind and are overdue for reauthorizing it by EIGHT years.
During that time, the real rulershave not been idle…..it was always the plan to put common standards into federal law.
