Regarding FES's charges of racism against De Blasio, see Projection, Psychological, defined as the psychological phenomenon where humans (or, in Moskowitz's case, a rather toxic facsimile thereof) denies some aspect of their behavior or attitudes, and assumes instead that others are doing or thinking the same thing.

Everything about this episode, from the planning and marketing of the demonstration itself, to this ad, shows how so-called education reform is an ethical Black Hole, where the gravitational pull of greed, power hunger, hypocrisy and manipulation seek to suck in all public resources within reach, while emitting no light whatsoever.

These are bad people, brazenly performing shameful acts. It's fortunate that, after so many years of their vicious lies being given a free pass in media and political circles, they're starting to meet with more exposure and pushback.

I also get the feeling that the other big charter chains are probably not too happy with this. It's long been rumored/reported that they too loathe Eva (though for their own venal reasons) and they clearly like to operate in a less confrontational, faux-friendlier and behind-the-scenes manner. They worry that she'll fuck up their sweet deal with her compulsive belligerence. On Friday morning, September 25, 2015, Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-OH) announced that he would be retiring at the end of October.

My first thought was about the fate of the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the latest version of which is the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).

NCLB was supposed to be reauthorized in 2007. It never happened. The passage of NCLB required both major political parties to work together in a way that is relatively unheard of in Washington.

That should have been a clue in 2001. How would both parties manage to reauthorize the bill six years later? It wouldn’t happen, and hasn’t happened, and we are nearing the close of 2015.

But it did look like both House and Senate would manage to work together to arrive at a compromise bill based upon the House ESEA reauthorization version, Rep. John Kline’s (R-MN) Student Success Act (SSA), and the Senate ESEA reauthorization version, Sens. Lamar Alexander’s (R-TN) and Patty Murray’s (D-WA) Every Child Achieves Act of 2015 (ECAA).

Mind reading ability might be the next data gathered on school children.  From Kids who ‘mind read’ tend to learn more effectively:

Everyone mind reads to some degree, using intuition and context clues to empathize with and interpret the thoughts, words and actions of others.

Young children do this too. And according to a new study, those that do it best tend to be better selective learners.

In an experiment conducted by researchers from Concordia University and the University of Ottawa, children with better mind-reading abilities were more likely to absorb information from trustworthy figures and disregard info offered by those who were less trustworthy.

“We already know that some preschoolers are more likely to learn from individuals with a history of making accurate claims over individuals who have been inaccurate or ignorant,” senior study author Diane Poulin-Dubois, a psychology professor at Concordia and researcher with the university’s Center for Research in Human Development, explained in a press release.  (MEW note: this ‘press release’ link is broken and information on the Concordia study may be found here.)

(Editor's note: I am not a lawyer.  I am a layperson who is interested in the law and I have sought to understand the Washington State Supreme Court ruling on the charter school law.)  

Background

For your edification, here's a link to the Washington State Constitution which was ratified in 1889.  The key issue in this case is the Constitution's use of the term "common schools."  Here's a history of the term "common school" fromPBS.  It would appear that it was a historical term meaning schools funded by taxes (as opposed to private or church-led schools).  Horace Mann was the best-known leader for common schools.  

The term first appears in Article II (Legislative Department), Section 28, part 15. Section 28 states:

SECTION 28 SPECIAL LEGISLATION. The legislature is prohibited from enacting any private or special laws in the following cases: 

15. Providing for the management of common schools.

The main section that the Court used was Article IX - Education - wherein we find the famous "paramount duty" phrase.  It's on page 37.  One key paragraph that seems to throw some people is this one:

The legislature shall provide for a general and uniform system
