Students with Disabilities are Victims of Corporal Punishment

I was reading your blog Big Education Ape and I think it is great! So, I wanted to remind you about  Marc Ecko's personal and nationwide campaign to end paddling in U.S. schools, which is also a cause that many do not realize still exists today!  It's called Unlimited Justice

If you didn't already know, 20 states in America still allow the paddling of students, otherwise known as Corporal Punishment! To put that in perspective, over 200,000 students are left victims of violence from their teachers or administrators.  In fact, did you know that students with disabilities account for nearly 20% of students paddled in schools? Even thought they only make up 14% of our student population nationwide. Teacher's most often resort to corporal punishment with these students because they are not creative enough to come up with other forms of discipline and cannot handle our special education children!  How can our children be motivated to learn and go to school when they know that being late to class, acting out, or even going to the bathroom without permission, can merit a paddling and they don't understand why?

To learn more about Corporal Punishment take a look at this video where Marc Ecko explains more on the subject and how schools claim they want to create a safe learning environment for students but seem to be missing the big picture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3ZsY8EWc_8

Furthermore, Marc Ecko and Unlimited Justice are providing the tools for anyone to take a stand, be heard, and help end paddling in U.S schools!  Visit ecko.com/* (yes, that's an asterisk*) and get involved… LearnUnite with other Activists, Recruit your friends, Activate with legislators, and Create noise!  The site uses Facebook Connect, allowing easy sharing and posting, plus it lets you email and even fax directly to legislators.  Take it one step further and get the free Unlimited Justice iPhone apphttp://itunes.apple.com/us/app/unltd-justice/id423733453?mt=8
