Our Children, Our Future and an EXCELLENT DEAL FOR CA CHARTER SCHOOLS #SOSCHAT

Our Children, Our Future 2012 // Welcome:

Our Children, Our Future will
give Sacramento Charter High, Sacramento, 95817

$1,013,754
2013-2014
$1,763,474
2017-2018
$2,385,695
2023-2024

Our Children, Our Future will raise billions in new, dedicated funding each year to invest in our children, with funds tending to increase over time.  These numbers reflect a snapshot of how much new funding a school or district will get in the first full year of OCOF implementation (2013-14), the fifth year of OCOF implementation (2017-18), and the final year of implementation before being submitted to the voters for reapproval (2023-24).  Note that the new funding in 2012-2013 school year will be 50% of 2013-14 revenues because the provisions of the Act will not go into effect until January 2013.

Aggressive marketing by charter schools, soliciting applicants

The Bloomberg administration and the charter school operators always claim that in the rapid proliferation of charter schools across the city, they are merely responding to parent “demand” but this ignores the aggressive recruiting methods they use to build up their “waiting lists.”  Eva Moskowitz has hired paid recruiters to “poach” students for her Success Academy charters, as in the video below, outside PS 261 in Brooklyn.  Not to mention her extensive and expensive advertising campaigns, in which she spent $1.6 million dollars on marketing efforts alone in 2009-2010, amounting to $1,300 per incoming student.

This year, there is evidence that Harlem in particular has become oversaturated with charters, that have been forced to go far afield to solicit applications.  Parents as far away as lower Manhattan have receiving mailings from Democracy Prep and Harlem Link.

We have also been forwarded emails  in recent days from two new Harlem charters, both authorized
