On July 28, 2014, members of the Badass Teachers Association - BATs - convened in Washington, DC. Over 500 teachers, parents, administrators, performers, politicians, and students from 38 states came together in front of the Dept. of Education Building to support one another; send a clear message; share viable, healthy alternatives to "ed reforms"; and celebrate our expanding solidarity. More than merely invigorating, the event felt almost magical to those in attendance...and it led to a contingent of six BATs being invited in to meet with DOE reps, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan himself.
