CURMUDGUCATION: New Anglo-Saxon Caucus Has Some Education Thoughts. They Are As Bad As The Rest Of This Damn Fool Platform.

CURMUDGUCATION: New Anglo-Saxon Caucus Has Some Education Thoughts. They Are As Bad As The Rest Of This Damn Fool Platform.
New Anglo-Saxon Caucus Has Some Education Thoughts. They Are As Bad As The Rest Of This Damn Fool Platform

So, led by a team-up of House of Representative winners from Georgia and Arizona, there is now a White Racist Nativist America First Caucus that swears to "follow in President Trump's footsteps and potentially step on toes and sacrifice sacred cows for the good of the American nation" as well as calling for "common respect for the uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions."

It's as awful as it is dumb. There are seven full pages of a "platform" which could be considered a racist nativist dog whistle if you are thinking of a dog so deaf that he has to be called by yelling his name through a bullhorn.

I am not going to get into the various details of this embarrassing mess, other than to note that they express a love for Roman-based stuff, a stance that doesn't really mesh well with a love of Anglo-Saxonisity, as the Anglo-Saxons got their own nation by kicking Roman and Roman-trained ass up and down Britain. Whatever reverence the Angles and Saxons have for Roman culture and language more likely is at least partially the result of the Norman Conquest, when the French (themselves the linguistic descendants of the Romans) came across the channel and kicked a whole lot of Anglo-Saxon ass, and then subjugated it for a really long time (which is why, boys and girls, it's "scientific" to say that you must defecate, but rude and gross if you say you need to shit). But I digress. Point being, as with most white supremacist nativist European-loving bullshit, there's a lot of ahistorical dumb going on here.

However, in amidst the rest of this, there's a whole paragraph devoted to the White Folx Platform for education, and since that's my wheelhouse, let's take a look: CONTINUE READING: CURMUDGUCATION: New Anglo-Saxon Caucus Has Some Education Thoughts. Laurie’s Last Stand? – Tennessee Education Report

Laurie’s Last Stand? – Tennessee Education Report
LAURIE’S LAST STAND?

Laurie Cardoza-Moore, an anti-Muslim activist and participant in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol will be considered for an appointment on the state Textbook Commission at a hearing in the House Education Instruction Committee on Wednesday, March 24th, at 11:00 AM.

Moore was appointed to the Textbook Commission by House Speaker Cameron Sexton. While most such appointments are approved with little debate or discussion, Moore is expected to generate at least some opposition.

In fact, Moore’s anxiety over losing out on the opportunity to shape Tennessee’s textbook choices was reflected in a column she wrote for the Tennessean:

I pray for a day, when parents in the Volunteer State can send their children to school with the knowledge that they are receiving a wholesome, accurate and unbiased American education.

She’s also a fan of encouraging her followers to “take back” America’s schools, as demonstrated in this letter about Dominion voting machines.

Apparently, taking back the schools has become a great source of profit for Moore. Just look at 2017, when:

. . . she paid herself $130,000. Then, she paid her husband’s business $67,000. There was a business “office expense” for occupancy at just over $49,000. She runs PJTN from her home, so that means she’s paying her CONTINUE READING: Laurie’s Last Stand? – Tennessee Education Report

Mike Klonsky's Blog: Parkland

Mike Klonsky's Blog: Parkland
Parkland

I was in Parkland two days after the massacre in 2018. I did some interviews with parents, educators, and students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, all shaken with anger and despair, feelings that in the following months would inspire the energy behind a movement for gun control. It was a movement led by the students themselves, that would sweep the nation and play a critical role in the political shift towards Democrats in the last election.

Like most of the country, I cheered on the dozens of students who boarded the buses to Tallahassee that day to offer their "reasonable" gun control proposals to the state legislature only to be ignored and insulted by state pols.

Now three years later, some of those feelings of grief and anger have returned as I watch video of gun-toting white-supremacist, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene berating anti-gun student leaders and mocking news of the massacre that killed 17 people at MSD and wounded 17 others and still no significant gun laws on the books.

Rep. Greene is easy to hate unless you're one of the thousands of north Georgia Republicans CONTINUE READING: Mike Klonsky's Blog: Parkland

Marie Corfield: What Really Happened Inside the Capitol

Marie Corfield: What Really Happened Inside the Capitol
What Really Happened Inside the Capitol

Stop what you are doing right now and watch this. THIS is what it was really like inside the Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 when traitorous thugs, egged on by the man who's supposed to be the President of the United States, stormed the building and killed a Capitol police officer. They were out for blood, they were out for vengeance, they were trying to overthrow our government. They erected a noose and were looking for Mike Pence to try it out on. They had handcuffs, guns and incendiary devices. They carried Confederate flags and wore clothes emblazoned with Nazi slogans. They attacked members of the press and vandalized their equipment. They spread human feces on the walls inside the building and urinated on it outside. They tried to remove our American flag and replace it with a Trump flag. The broke down doors, smashed windows and completely overwhelmed the Capitol police (some of whom may have aided and abetted them).

They were out for blood. They were after hostages. They were the epitome of an angry, out of control mob. The only things missing were torches and pitchforks. As Chris Hayes says, it's a miracle that the floors of the Capitol weren't covered in blood. It's a miracle CONTINUE READING: Marie Corfield: What Really Happened Inside the Capitol
