On July 28, 2014, members of the Badass Teachers Association - BATs - convened in Washington, DC. Over 500 teachers, parents, administrators, performers, politicians, and students from 38 states came together in front of the Dept. of Education Building to support one another; send a clear message; share viable, healthy alternatives to "ed reforms"; and celebrate our expanding solidarity. More than merely invigorating, the event felt almost magical to those in attendance...and it led to a contingent of six BATs being invited in to meet with DOE reps, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan himself. Please enjoy this brief summary of highlights of BATs first rally...and start planning to join us next summer when we return!
