Mother Crusader: Could One Angry Wag Of Chris Christie's Finger Derail His Fait Accompli Re-election?:

Could One Angry Wag Of Chris Christie's Finger Derail His Fait Accompli Re-election?

Over the course of the last 24 plus hours many of us who follow education issues have read a great deal about Governor Christie's angry finger-wag in the face of yet another teacher. The story has already gone national, and the timing could not be more perfect.
                                                                  Mad No

You see, our Governor was trying to lay low with his education agenda leading up to the election before elementary school teacher Melissa Tomlinson had the temerity to ask him
why he calls NJ schools "failure factories."

Why was Christie laying low? Because the man can read a poll, and polls say his education policies are wildly unpopular. Here's an entirely unscientific poll, but a good one none the less.

NJ Spotlight readers were asked what they think of Christie's K-12 education policies. Only 4% said he is "spot on" while 10% say he wants to do "too much too fast" and a staggering 79% say he is "destroying public education."

Yeesh. That's ugly.

Let's look at something a tad more

NJ Governor Chris Christie Yelling At Teacher
NJ Governor Chris Christie Yelling At Teacher
Normally, I write my short notes, but I’d like to dedicate some time to this issue with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s othering of a teacher this past weekend at a political rally of his. Most of the coverage around this event has centered on the tenor politicians have set in their quest to reform education. As Christie wags a finger at this woman, the crowd cheers, signaling a societal acknowledgment that politicians can lay waste to any courtesy towards anyone, and that democracy is overrated. Surely, dissenters get jeers at any rally, but this particular type of jeer further solidified the idea that teachers’ rights are aligned with women’s rights.
For those unaware, teaching has had the perception of “woman’s work” for the better part of the last century. Without workers’ rights and collective bargaining, some of the rights teachers have these days wouldn’t exist. Yet, it seems clear that teaching as a woman-dominated profession would get accosted by a patriarchal government. The facts are clear: 85% of K-12 teachers are women and 80% of our government officials are men. Even with a margin of error of 5% (give or take), Christie’s finger-waging of this teacher is not just symbolic of the attitudes against teachers, but women as a whole.
How the East Coast Governator gets away with this speaks volumes for why everyone needs to

NOT GUILTY--SEPTEMBER 6, 2013-ATLANTA: Tamara Cotman (center) talks to the media after being found not guilty in the trial against her in Fulton County Court on Friday September 6th, 2013. The first defendant in the Atlanta Public Schools test cheating scandal was found not guilty Friday, dealing a major blow to prosecutors' efforts to hold those involved criminally responsible. PHIL SKINNER / PSKINNER@AJC.COM
When the Fulton County District Attorney indicted 35 Atlanta educators in March, including former APS Superintendent Beverly Hall, several attorneys warned the charges would be a tough sell in court. (They also cautioned the trials would be costly to taxpayers.)
Today, attorney E. Wycliffe (Wyc) Orr explains why.
Orr's Gainesville law firm represented some APS educators involved in the investigation, but none prosecuted criminally or affected by the Fulton DA's decision to prosecute. Orr, a former state legislator, has been a trial lawyer for 40 years.
 By Wyc Orr
It’s time to admit it. In fact, way past time. It was a really bad idea to criminally prosecute educators accused of falsifying Criterion Referenced Competency Test results in the Atlanta Public Schools.
This all began with a loud, pontificating, and politically-inspired investigation – launched in 2010 via then-Governor Sonny Perdue’s appointment of special investigators outside norma

Governor Chris Christie Is a Meanie and a Bully

The news is out. Governor Chris Christie, he of the wide girth, publicly berated a public school teacher, Melinda Tomlinson, who dared to ask him, “Why are you portraying our schools as failure factories?” In response, Governor Christie responded, “What do you want? I’m tired of you people, do your job”according to Tomlinson. They had a brief argument over public schools.

What is this animosity Governor Big Mac has for teachers? The Crack Team did some digging and has found out that when Governor Big Mac was a young child in the 4th grade he had a crush on his teacher, which The Crack Team has found exclusive video. He stalked her to her home on Valentine's Day and professed his love to her. Sadly, he was rejected. The hurt lasted with him to this day.

First things first. I guess it is official now. I am now amongst another groups of "you people." Being a Jew, I knew when hearing "you people," there was a good chance either I, my family, or the tribe was being referenced. Now, when I hear those two words, I must now wonder if the conversation is about teachers as well. But, as one of The Crack Team's groupies shared with us, people say, "you people" to convey;
when they want to distance themselves. It's as bad as using a racial slur. It implies a sense of superiority.
We here at SBSB wonder of Governor Big Mac will ever go into the bowels of Camden, or West

Week in Class: Week Nine 2013

[Museum of Liverpool] Escalier central
Actually, this is week eight too, but this photo was so nifty I had to use it…
I missed posting last week because I was in Los Angeles all weekend, participating in the California Teachers Association (CTA) State Council. State Council is the governing body of CTA and sets the policy direction for our organization. Around that, I’ve been wrapping up our first unit, and starting in on our second with students. Onto that…Some thoughts as I wind up the first unit of study, and starting the new one…
  1. I tried to switch students over to unit packets that I would check at the end of the unit, since this is a format used in some secondary classrooms. Also, I wanted them to have a work expectation when they finish early, as happens some weeks. This did not work as well I would like. Many students had all the notes I expected (an improvement from last year). Fewer had any other work (video reports, book reports, etc.) required. They got better with each of the three packets they had to turn in (Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science). I think we all have a better idea of what’s expected, and I need to focus on what they did right (they at least had notes done — something that was more problematic last year).
  2. They’re writing seems of a more even quality than last year’s class. Fewer of them have “voice” in their writing, and I would like to
