Chicago Public Schools : Local School Council Elections

Chicago Public Schools : Local School Council Elections:

Dear CTU members, LSC representatives and community supporters,

The largest number of Black and Latina/o elected officials in the country are members of Local School Councils. We are only weeks away from this very important election (April 7 & 8) that determines the principal selection process, the school budget, and how the school relates to parents and the larger community. Recently, hundreds of current and future LSC members gathered together to pass a common platform called LSCs United for Community Power. It is a powerful example of our shared vision for our schools. Please see the attached platform.

This Friday, March 14 is the extended deadline to submit your application to run for Local School Council.

As of 1pm yesterday, CPS’ Office of Local School Councils state that there are now 4, 474 candidates for a total of 5,771 LSC positions to fill. That leaves 1,297 positions to fill by March 14 @ 3:00 pm. Please consider running yourself or encouraging a friend or neighbor who is active and involved in the community to get involved and run under the LSCs United for Community Power slate. Since a parent representative will become the chair of the LSC, please ask an engaged and involved parent to participate.
