Former construction worker Tim Dunlap knows he's lucky to have a decent pension that allowed him to retire last November at an age when many of his peers still have to work at least another decade.

But he worries about his youngest son, who also works in construction, and his oldest who teaches in Monroeville. He said both their futures could be at risk if a proposed Senate bill is approved Tuesday to restrict the bargaining power of public employees.

Dunlap, 54, and many of the more than 400 others who crammed into the UAW Local 913 hall Saturday morning to support teachers, safety officers and other government workers fear the measure will eventually extend to the private sector, creating the domino effect of making Ohio an anti-union state.

"You don't realize you're dead until the hearse is at your door," said Dunlap, a member of the Labor International "We just want what's fair for all workers."
