COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — For one failing charter school here in Columbus, there won’t be a 2015-2016 school year.
The sign on door informed parents and employees that operations at the FCI Academy on Mock Road have been suddenly suspended by the school’s sponsor…just as the school year was about to start.
Charter school critics used the opportunity to renew their call for charter school reforms at the statehouse.
Checking online records, the FCI Academy scored Ds and Fs on state standards, and by nearly every measure scored lower than Columbus City Schools. Even so, Columbus transferred close to $2.5 million to FCI…about $6,800 per Columbus student attending the academy.
That’s about $2800 more per student than Columbus receives from the state.
