New Sacramento City Unified Superintendent Jose Banda launched his 100-day campaign to familiarize himself with the district and the community today as 43,000 students started their first day of the new school year.
The brief ceremony at Albert Einstein Middle School in the Rosemont area drew appearances by state schools chief Tom Torlakson, district trustees Jay Hansen and Christina Pritchett and Einstein Principal Garrett Kirkland.
Banda has said he planned to spent 100 days learning about parents and community groups and their interests before tackling detailed initiatives.
“It’s really an opportunity to start to learn more about Sacramento, not only the school district but the city and the community,” Banda said. “I think part of that is to really hear back from our parents and our community, what they want in our education process, and being able to incorporate some of those wonderful ideas they may have into what we’re doing.”
