Questions Every Public School Parent Should Be Asking Now

It’s summer.  Report cards are out and families are on vacation. I’m glad for you if you are. Lazy days. No school days. Play days. Summer camp. Music. Mud. Hopscotch. Hanging out. Increasingly however, for some children who have been unsuccessful at passing the tests, summer just means more school. Remediation. Dog days of summer. And if they don’t pass the alternative tests… Retention. It might even be a high school diploma denied… indefinitely.

Many other parents like me, are preparing for the onslaught of testing that will bear down on our children in the coming school year, more frequently, and counting for more than ever.

NOW, not later, NOW is the time to help get your school administrators thinking about the reasoning, or the lack thereof, behind the policies they have put in place and uphold.

CALL TO ACTION: Here is a list of thought-provoking questions for you to present. You may be surprised by some of the answers you receive. You might surprise them into realizing that they haven’t considered some of these questions themselves. Send your questions by e-mail. They may be legally obligated to respond and their replies will be your documentation. We would appreciate it if you would share the responses you receive in the comments here.

If every school district in the US was flooded with these questions, the press would start to pay real attention. School districts tout the need for teacher accountability. It’s time to turn this tide on false accountability. WE must demand real accountability from our school leadership!

Flood of mail     Reporters take notice
The measures necessary to accommodate testing have grown ridiculous, stealing irreplaceable instruction time from our children and money from their schools.

Parents deserve real answers to these questions…
—> For principals:
1. How many standardized tests does my child have to take this year?
2. Where do these tests originate?
3. What is the specific academic purpose for each one?
4. How will these tests affect my child’s academic future or standing?Questions Every Public School Parent Should Be Asking Now | Opt Out Orlando:
