SBE guidance on LCFF accountability: Read the law

School administrators and advocacy groups inundated the state board meeting Wednesday with yet another dose of unease and anxiety over regulatory oversight of the state’s new funding system for schools, the Local Control Funding Formula.
While there had been some sense that the California State Board of Education would offer some direction with respect to rules they will be developing in the coming months governing billions of dollars of state funds already delivered to district coffers, the only guidance was to read key sections of the authorizing bill approved by the Legislature in June.
“I would hope everyone in this room and everyone you represent commit to memory Education Code 52060 because it provides a great deal of guidance and legislative priorities, that were signed by the governor, for what should be included in the Local Control Accountability Plan,” explained SBE member Sue Burr.
“This is the law right now, so for those school districts who are looking for guidance and worried about making sure all of this is coherent – I encourage you to read this,” she said.
