Here’s a political prediction.
Millionaire Bruce Rauner will never be governor of Illinois.
Here is why I say that.
Rauner has decided to make his gubernatorial campaign a run against public employee unions. That’s it. That’s his entire platform.
Asked by a reporter if he was saying government unions should be eliminated in Illinois, Rauner said, “We need to modify their power.” Asked how, he said, “I won’t go into it today. We’ve got a detailed plan.”
But he did say, “I think the ability for government workers to decide whether to join a union or not, that’s fair.”
Rauner said public worker pensions negotiated by representatives of unions who give millions of dollars to the campaigns of the politicians granting raises and pensions is a “pay-to-play, conflict-of-interest structure.”
“If that occurred in the private sector, people’d go to jail,” Rauner said. “Employees

Thousands of high school seniors are panicking that they won’t graduate on time because a city-contracted company bungled the grading process for Regents exams.
City officials vowed to finish grading the exams as quickly as possible. Principals were told Tuesday that if the tests aren’t marked on time, students can still participate in graduation ceremonies but can’t get their diplomas.

Mike Carrigan, President of the Illinois AFL-CIO says that their will be no more concessions by the state’s public employee unions. In meetings with Senate Democrats, the We Are One coalition of public employee unions bargained SB2404.
Many rank-and-file union members (including this one) believed that SB2404 failed to live up to the promise made by union leaders that they would not agree to anything that was not constitutional, failed to bring stability to the pension system and was fair to members.
