John Laesch of Northern Illinois Jobs With Justice writes to tell me that a bill has now been introduced in the General Assembly calling for a constitutional amendment creating graduated income tax. Such an amendment would then be placed on the 2014 ballot.
John and NIJWJ have been active in bringing attention to a revenue solution to the state’s pension liability.
On Jan 9th, State Representative Naomi Jakobsson filed a bill that would give Illinois voters an opportunity to amend Illinois’ tax code and pave the way for a graduated income tax.
On Jan 23rd, State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia added her name as a co-sponsor to the bill.
