Last week I posted the story of Ames Middle School and the community’s fight to keep it as a neighborhood school.
Local political boss Alderman Roberto Maldonado wanted to turn it into a military school.
Ames was created 15 years ago as a result of community pressure to relieve over-crowding in other Logan Square schools. And while the numbers of students are down from those days, the school is, by all measures, an effective and safe learning environment for young teenagers.
