San Diego police to get extra eye on schools

San Diego police will soon be able to monitor live streaming video from 70 of the city’s roughly 200 campuses, an added measure of security in the wake of Friday’s school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

But even as they expressed confidence in those measures, school officials also were reflecting on how they could improve them.

School yoga classes draw fire from conservatives

A small but vocal group of parents, spurred on by the head of a local conservative advocacy group, has likened 30-minute yoga classes to religious indoctrination. They say the classes – part of a comprehensive program offered to all public school students in this affluent suburb north of San Diego – represent a violation of the First Amendment.
