BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- An education agency has suspended theBirmingham city school's district accreditation request because of concern over the Board of Education's micromanagement.
Birmingham is in the early stages of a two-year process to earn districtwide accreditation instead of having to go through the arduous task of getting each individual school accredited. Many districts are moving toward the district-wide accreditation, whichAdvancEd, the accrediting umbrella of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, began offering in 2006.
