Geaux Teacher!: STRAIGHT UP - a lucid moment from Rick Hess:

STRAIGHT UP - a lucid moment from Rick Hess

As I have said before when citing a blog by Rick Hess, I don't often agree with him, but this posting today was more than a moment of cogency regarding school choice.

I could spend (and our policymakers SHOULD spend) quality time studying, developing, and critiquing Hess's points to find ways to implement strategies that would benefit and protect everyone's right and ability to take ownership of REAL CHOICE and at the same time ACTUALLY IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR ALL STUDENTS!!! - as PUBLIC EDUCATION was intended to do.

Policymakers and politicians drowned in the tsunami of reform have swallowed plenty of its polluted water.

It is never too late to REDEFINE THE VOCABULARY of reform so that some of its favorite SELLING POINTSlike choice, innovation, autonomy. . . take on real meaning and are not just rhetoric used like barkers on
