OccupyWallSt at OccupyWallSt News - 1 hour ago
[image: may day poster] While American corporate media has focused on yet another stale election between Wall Street-financed candidates, Occupy has been organizing something extraordinary: the first truly nationwide General Strike in U.S. history. Building on the international celebration of May Day, past General Strikes in U.S. cities like Seattle and Oakland, the recent May 1st Day Without An Immigrant demonstrations, the national general strikes in Spain this year, and the on-going student strike in Quebec, the Occupy Movement has called for A Day Without the 99% on May 1st, ... more »

What YOU Can Do on May Day

OccupyWallSt at OccupyWallSt News - 3 hours ago
*Originally published at Occupy Together.* [image: outgrow the status quo] May Day is an international day of celebration to honor the labor movement. This year the Occupy movement has made a call for mass action—the May First General Strike (#M1GS): a day with out the 99%. Several cities have organized in solidarity with this call to action. A general strike is a way to build and demonstrate the power of the people. It’s a way to show this is a system that only exists because we allow it to. If we can withdraw from the system for one day we can use that day to build community an... more »

*originally published at StrikeEverywhere.net* [image: I12m15] *Why are we striking? Why should you strike? And, what do we mean by General Strike?* We are striking to halt the flow of capital, reclaim a tool of resistance, and unify movements against exploitation, repression, and corruption. You should join the movement and strike because: everyone else will be doing it and it’ll be fun and empowering. But more importantly, join because you’ve experienced exploitation, repression, and corruption, and you are aware of their impact around you. Join if you are forced to work and c... more »

LIVE: NYPD Moves On #Occupied Wall Street

OccupyWallSt at OccupyWallSt News - 5 days ago
At 6AM this morning, NYPD -- including high ranking officials (white shirts) -- surrounded and raided the corner accross from the New York Stock Exchange where Occupiers have been sleeping on Wall Street. This police action appears to be in direct defiance of the 2000 decision *Metropolitan Council Inc. v. Safir*, which held "public sleeping as a means of symbolic expression" to be constitutionally-protected speech. Occupiers read text from the case to police as they were being removed. At least four people have been arrested and Occupiers are currently assembled on the steps of ... more »

Four Ways to Support Re-Occupation

OccupyWallSt at OccupyWallSt News - 5 days ago
[image: wall st occupied] As the weather warms across much of the world, Occupiers are retaking public space. Even after we were violently removed from many of our home encampments last fall and winter, we never stoped organizing - and now we are back outside. With the rebirth of spring, re-occupation has begun in earnest. For a full week, Wall Street - the original target of our indignation - has been #Occupied. Thanks in part to a 2000 decision by a federal court in Manhattan, protesters are legally allowed to sleep on the sidewalk, as long as they don't block building entran... more »
