David Stovall, Notes From The Ground

Professor David Stovall, University of Illinois Chicago, spoke at yesterday's CReATe event.  He works with one of Chicago's small high schools, Social Justice.
"At the same time that we were placed on probation, we also lost ten positions in the school, and only three were returned as a part of a collective effort to demonstrate to CPS that those positions were integral to our space. Now, what’s missing in this new particular legislation is the idea of student support. Value-added scores, or growth scores, do not demonstrate the improvements of a student over time. Additionally, it does not demonstrate supports necessary for additional academic achievement." -- David Stovall, UIC
