PUNISHMENTS IN THE ATLANTA TEACHING SCANDAL

The first punishments are being handed down in the Atlanta test cheating scandal. Several teachers had their certificates suspended for two years. Many more cases are pending and the suspensions are just the beginning. The teachers might also face permanent dismissal as well as criminal charges.

What do you think about the punishments ? The teachers had changed answers on the achievement tests in order to show progress under the No Child Left Behind standards. Are the punishments too severe? Not severe enough ? Were the teachers victims of the ridiculous pressures of No Child Left Behind ? Should the ultimate punishment be reserved for administrators who encouraged the teachers to cheat ? I would be interested to hear
