Labor Day. Stand Up Chicago!

Monday, September 5, 2011
11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Rally in Grant Park
Near Congress and Columbus
Rally to be followed by a march to the site of negotiations.

Stand Up! Chicago is working with a growing collaboration of working families and labor and community groups to join together on Labor Day to say “NO” to a proposed NAFTA-style agreement to be negotiated here in Chicago in early September.

In its proposed format, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would kill jobs and increase state budget deficits.

We’ve already lost millions of jobs to NAFTA-style “free trade,” and now trade negotiators are meeting in Chicago to hammer out a massive new corporate-friendly free-trade agreement with Pacific Rim countries.

Big corporations and financial interests are the big players in these negotiations and plan to use the TPP to take even more money away from struggling families. Working families need a better deal, one that offers protections for labor, environmental, and human rights.

Join us to demand a fair deal, one that stops corporations from reaping big bucks by sending good manufacturing and service jobs overseas, depressing wages and benefits in Chicago and around the country, and trimming their already record-low tax rates.

The rally is endorsed by a growing list of labor and community organizations, including the Chicago Federation of Labor and SEIU.

The downloadable flyer contains more details, including the most updated list of endorsers. Please pass it on to friends, family, and co-workers, or share the event through Facebook.
