$1-million grant to ease transfers for community college students

A California initiative to help community college students transfer to state universities and obtain bachelor’s degrees has been awarded a $1-million grant, officials announced Wednesday.

The grant was awarded jointly to the California Community Colleges and California State University to help develop and raise awareness of a new transfer degree program that will be available to students beginning this fall.

The program simplifies the transfer process between the systems, awarding community college students an associate’s degree in a number of disciplines that will be accepted by Cal State campuses that offer similar programs. Students with the transfer degree will be given priority enrollment and junior status and will need only
