Educators across California, including Orange County, are preparing a week of demonstrations they hope will avert school cuts that could swell to $4.8 billion in 2011-12.
Events May 9-13 will range from Orange County’s “grade-ins,” where teachers will publicly correct papers, to massive rallies in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego.
A coalition of statewide school unions is behind the “state of emergency” themed push, urging local groups to highlight the harm a new round of cuts would wreak on top of those that have already led to crowded classes, salary cuts, staff layoffs and elimination of instruction days.
