That’s why the district is reserving a bunch of seats at higher performing schools for kids from struggling schools. Officials say they opened the process up earlier this year than in previous years.

Superintendent Jonathan Raymond says letters used to be sent out in fall. He says the early notice will benefit students that want to switch schools.

Raymond: “We’re sending letters to those families now, saying: hey, you have a choice and an opportunity to have your child attend one of those other schools, let us know if you’re interested now.”

Raymond says parents have until next Wednesday, March 10th, to inform the district of a school change. Officials sent the letters out late last week.

Raymond says in the future, the district wants to continue these changes...and maybe even expand them.
