Pittsburgh schools criticized over charters

Pittsburgh schools criticized over charters:

"Before giving up his seat on the Pittsburgh school board last month, Randall Taylor pledged to remain active in education issues.

He wasted little time making good on the promise.

Charter school proponents are circulating an e-mail from Mr. Taylor in which he blasts the Pittsburgh Public Schools' handling of a charter school application, claiming the school board rejected it for fear of competition.

'I believe decision-makers have come to the conclusion that the Pittsburgh Public Schools cannot compete with or against public charter schools, and that numerous students in some communities would enroll in a charter, if given that opportunity,' he said."
