Assembly Passes Reforms in Race to the Top | News10.net | Sacramento, California | Local News:

"SACRAMENTO, CA - The state Assembly passed new education mandates in order to compete for some $700 million in federal funds.

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass said in a statement Monday, 'the Assembly passed legislation to provide California schools with key reforms and strengthen the state's application for federal education funding under President Obama's Race to the Top initiative. '

Senate Bill X5 1 deals with teacher credentialing, measuring student academic performance and fixing low-performing schools.

Senate Bill X5 4 also deals with reform of low-performing schools, as well as inter-district transfers and funding.

Sen. Gloria Romero, D- East Los Angeles, is the author of both measures."
