Honey, we need to have a talk. Sit down. Pour yourself something strong — because your electricity bill is about to go up anyway, so you might as well enjoy it now. The man you voted for, rallied for, bought the hat for, and maybe even named your boat after? He's been seeing other people. Expensive people. Every bad relationship has an origin story, and this one has receipts.

Let's be clear about what "the Tech Bros gave him" actually means in dollar terms:

  • Elon Musk dropped roughly $290 million into pro-Trump election initiatives. In return, he got to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and wave a chainsaw around at rallies like a man who has never actually used a chainsaw.
  • Tim Cook showed up with a golden Apple — literally presenting Trump with a commemorative golden Apple product at a White House ceremony. Your iPhone just got more expensive, but the photo op was chef's kiss.
  • FIFA Peace Award — yes, that happened. The administration received a FIFA "peace award" amid negotiations over the 2026 World Cup hosting rights. Nothing says "peace" like a soccer trophy handed to a man who once suggested injecting bleach.
  • David Sacks hosted high-dollar fundraisers, got appointed White House "AI and Crypto Czar," and is now the most powerful venture capitalist in Washington who you've probably never heard of.
  • Marc Andreessen & Ben Horowitz of a16z backed Trump explicitly over AI deregulation — and Andreessen landed a seat on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. That's a fancy title for "the guy who now helps write the rules for the industry he profits from."
  • The Winklevoss Twins organized crypto PACs. Because apparently being the guys who almost invented Facebook wasn't enough — now they want to help run the country too.

And what did you give him? Your vote. Just your vote.

THE EXCUSES: A BAD BOYFRIEND'S GREATEST HITS

Here's where it gets really familiar. Because when you confronted him about the data centers going up in your neighborhood — the ones drinking your water, spiking your electric bill, and turning your quiet county road into a construction zone — he didn't apologize. He didn't even flinch.

He did what every bad boyfriend does: he made you feel like the problem.

Translation: "If you don't like what I'm doing, you deserve what happens to you."

Classic manipulation. Textbook. They teach this in bad-boyfriend school.

"If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame. China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement." — Truth Social Post

Translation: "I'm not cheating on you — China is the real threat here. Why are you always bringing up China?"

Ah yes, the China Card — the political equivalent of "you're being crazy." When all else fails, invoke the geopolitical boogeyman. Suddenly your concerns about your water table become a Communist plot.

"They need some PR help because people think that if a data center goes in there, electricity prices are going to go up. It's not going to happen." — White House AI & Energy Meeting

And then, in the same breath, at the State of the Union:

"Many Americans are also concerned that energy demand from AI data centers could unfairly drive up their electric utility bills... We have an old grid. It could never handle the kind of numbers, the amount of electricity that's needed." — State of the Union Address

So in one room: "Prices won't go up, stop worrying." In another room: "The grid literally cannot handle this."

That, dear reader, is what therapists call holding two contradictory truths simultaneously — and what the rest of us call lying to your face depending on who's in the room.

"We are insisting that AI data centers and big tech companies pay their own way... If you want to build a data center, you should be building your own power to support that." — Remarks at the EPA

Now THIS one sounds good, right? He's standing up for you! He's making the Tech Bros pay! ...Except the "Ratepayer Protection Pledge" is voluntary. Non-binding. A pinky promise from trillion-dollar corporations. State utility boards are already calling it what it is: a press release dressed up as policy.

It's the political equivalent of your boyfriend saying "I promise I'll pay you back" — while his new friends are already moving their servers onto your lawn.
