Poorly Maintained Old Buildings, Another Threat to Students and School Employees

A report today in Philadelphia Inquirer documents what many of us have long known; Philadelphia aging school buildings are a clear and present danger to the health of children and those who work with them.   The article describes buildings with chronic mold problems that are known to contibute to respiratory ailments like asthma.   Deferred maintenance has agravated these problems.   What is clearly needed is an ambitious capital program to fix or replace these buildings, something the District is unlikely to fight for.   Their response in this article was to blame the unions for not making enough concessions to allow the District to improve maintenance.
