Diary rescue from this weekend, when our spiking traffic crashed our site. Promoted by Rosi.So on the weekend before the general election Chris Christie is showing his true colors as he cruises to victory. At his Somerset headquarters, PNJ has himlaunching his Presidential campaign by saying the following:
"This is not a typical election. They will see Republicans, Independents and Democrats uniting, coming together to vote for the same person; African Americans and Hispanics coming together to vote for the same person. They're going to see our state brought together like it's never been brought together before, and they are going to see the example from here to make the United States great again." Well, that's true. Christie has a lot of independent and Democratic people voting for him, and more African American and Hispanic people voting for him than Romney.
But he doesn't have coat-tails, and polls are showing that Democrats will likely hold and perhaps extend their leads in the Senate and Assembly. That means people are voting for Christie the person but not for the policies or the party Christie represents. And Christie knows it so he begged for support down-ticket. |

A lot of Newark high school students boycotted school for a while today. And they did it, because they're unhappy about Gov. Chris Christie, Newark Schools Superintendent Cami Anderson and what's happening to public education in their city. And because they're too young to vote against it.More than 300 students and their supporters snarled traffic during morning rush hour, making a chaotic commute for anybody near the Gateway Center Plaza. Then they marched down Mulberry Street to Cami Anderson's house to demand she return the $50k bonus Christie gave her on top of her salary. The students want Christie and his minions to know they're messing up.

Student-led actions, and movements, matter. There's an imperative to them, authorized by the age of the participants. As far as I'm concerned, they are to be listened to, by their targets - Christie and Anderson - but by the rest of us too. Young people will tell you what they need from us to create the world they want and deserve. Our job is to consider their imperatives when we set our priorities. Chris Christie isn't listening, and Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook check doesn't fix it. Because they're all heading in the wrong direction.

Cross-posted with Bob Braun's Ledger I am voting for Barbara Buono to take New Jersey back from the "bipartisan," billionaire-funded coalition of bullies, punks and cowardly sycophants who are using the state as a testing ground for a future national assault on the welfare of the poor, working people, and the middle class. That makes voting for Buono Tuesday an essential act of patriotism.
I am voting for Barbara Buono because she acts with dignity and treats people with respect. Frankly, without those qualifications, I don't care much about the rest. Despite the snarkiness of main stream media and stand-up comics-including those holding public office-I am tired of depictions of Jersey residents as crude, coarse, and stupid-depictions confirmed by a governor who is crude, coarse, and stupid. Or thinks he can gain votes and national attention by acting that way.
I am voting for Barbara Buono because she acted with courage and poise when other Democrats either ran from the Bully-in-Chief out of fear or sucked up to him for what they could gain. She was repeatedly stabbed in the back by party colleagues who care more about their own insignificant futures-where do you think you are going in Christieland, Joe D?-than they do about the future of the state and the nation. I am tired of Democrats who behave like obsequious little fawns whenever the Big Boy is in town.
