Alan Singer, critic of corporate influence on education, to speak at Cortland


Alan Singer, an outspoken critic of corporate influences on education, will speak at SUNY Cortland on Tuesday.
Singer, an education professor at Hofstra University, will focus on Pearson Inc., a multinational company headquartered in Great Britain.
Pearson has a five-year, $32 million contract to create standardized tests for New York state and has many other contracts in New York and across the country dealing with testing, curriculum, teacher training and other areas.
The title of Singer's speech is "Edu-Business at Work: Pearson Inc.'s Role in Public Education in New York State and Beyond."
