The facts:                                                                
On March 4, 2013 (despite a state law prohibiting Paul Vallas from becoming Bridgeport’s permanent superintendent of schools until he had completed a School Leadership Program, which would have then allowed Connecticut’s Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor to waive Vallas’ need for certification), the Bridgeport Board of Education voted 5 to 4 to make Vallas the City’s permanent superintendent and give him a three year contract.
Vallas, in turn, immediately signed the contract which ran from March 4, 2013 to March 3, 2016.  (It is an odd length for a superintendents contract, to say the least, since public schools and corresponding administrator and teacher contracts always run through the end of June.)
But be that as it may, Vallas and his backers have stuck to the notion that Vallas is here for the next three years and anything short of a long-term deal would catastrophic.
