Students Skipping Mandatory Test To Protest School Closings

CHICAGO (CBS) — They are supposed to be taking a mandatory state test today, but about 100 CPS students instead were protesting school closings outside Wednesday’s school board meeting.
They are upset over planned school closings, but it will come at the expense of some of their own academic careers.
Students on Wednesday are required to take a state PSAE exam that will promote them to senior year and make them eligible to graduate.
CBS 2′s Susanna Song reports, students said six buses picked them up from the respective high schools and dropped them off at CPS headquarters for the protest.
Organizers said community groups paid for the service.
Since CPS announced it will close 53 schools, parents and students have held protests across the city.
