UPDATE: School Tech Connect: Maybe I'm Wrong...

School Tech Connect: Maybe I'm Wrong...:

Maybe I'm Wrong...

...but, what the hell does this even mean?

Chicago ACTS has pushed for all charter school operators to agree to a code of conduct protecting the rights of charter school staff that choose to organize for a voice at their school. We now have received a commitment from the management of UNO Charter Schools to respect your rights to choose to have a union. This means you can feel confident in openly learning about and discussing how a union of teachers and staff at UNO schools can empower you and strengthen your schools without fear of retaliation.

I respect these Chicago Acts people, even as the entire underlying structure of the schools they're trying to organize is designed to dismantle large urban districts. However, I'm pretty sure that this agreement to refrain from overt bullying and behavior that is already illegal will later turn out to be just so many words.

Crispus Attucks

From Stephanie Gadlin---

CHICAGO – At present, the gymnasium of the former Crispus Attucks Elementary School,
3813 S. Dearborn, can’t possibly contribute to a profitable sale for the Chicago Public
Schools. The school was closed in 2008 and relocated elsewhere. For the past five years,
the campus sits as a quasi-empty shell full of damaged desks, overturned tables and
classrooms walls painted in gang graffiti. Today, Attucks is a center of illegal drug
transactions and vagrant activity. Instead of a vibrant, community learning center, CPS has
created an eyesore and safety hazard in Bronzeville.
