Allow me to revisit the previous #SOTU on #education

SOTU Wordle Much, much ado about what the President will say about education in tomorrow’s SOTU address. The Answer Sheet has what SHOULD be said. But I’m revisiting a post I have up here from the previous SOTU speech. The image to the left is a Wordle graphic of the speech. Notice how, from the transcript, the word APPLAUSE is the most prominent one. That’s because, well, he didn’t really say much about anything, and I don’t expect that to happen again.

#ASCDforum discussing #teacher #education

Use the titled hashtag to discuss teacher education with ASCD. I scanned the link they provided, and here’s what I saw:
Educators have begun to make their voices heard. For example, 2012 Emerging Leader and Regional Science Coordinator Fred Ende has five suggestions for improving teacher preparation:
  • Prepare educators to be specialists, instead of generalists.
  • Provide clarity around the certification process.
  • Connect K–12 educators with postsecondary educators to share curricula and methodology.
  • Get parents and students involved in teacher education classes.
  • Start recruiting teachers at the high school level.
Perhaps I have to respond to the original post by Ende, which is here. As a teacher educator myself, let me respond to each of the above from my experiences.
  • Specialists? Well, how would that apply to elementary education? No one ever seems to adress eled. We

Hey, @cornelwest, WE’RE not silent. They just won’t listen. Help us. #edreform #progressives

Good video. Now, fair reader, help us reach the hell out, will you?

Have you seen this apology from a high school teacher? #highered

I’m really liking Ken Bernstein’s apology to higher education faculty from a high school teacher. Actually, it’s a warning. A warning, it is.
From my experience, I just started recently teaching freshmen who could have been fifth graders I taught years ago at the pre-dawn of NCLB. Unfortunately, I don’t have the kind of perspective as someone who has been in higher education for years and years.
