We're So Marginalized It's Crazy

Ok, there's a lot going on in the clip I'm embedding below. First is a terrific interview with Chris Hayes, who is in town tonight. Much of what is happening in public education can also be described in the terms outlined in this discussion and in Hayes' book. So watch it.

However, pay attention to the commercial at the start of it. You may get a different commercial from the one I get, but I get an Exxon commercial about American students coming in last on an international science test, and how we should all work together to solve this problem.

I can't quite read the small print, if there is any, but this assertion about the USA coming in last has beenthoroughly fleshed out, the gist of which is that:

Schools in the United States with less than a 10% poverty rate had a PISA score of 551.  When compared to the ten countries with similar poverty numbers, that score ranked first. 


Now, I don't know which test Exxon is referring to, but if it's a test where they track poverty rates, I'm
